There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne'er express, yet cannot all conceal.

The funds can be invested as an EIS (Enterprise Investment Scheme)
The funds can be invested as an EIS (Enterprise Investment Scheme)
The reasons why it is better to structure it, as an EIS is as follows:
1. The investors would get tax relief on the way in – of 30% on their income tax – so assuming they have income tax - that would be a substantial saving (and could be higher if we structure it partly as a Seed EIS – up to 50% income tax saving). The investors would receive their tax rebate circa 6 months after the investment and the cheque would come directly from HMRC. The new health club company still receives the full £150,000 from each investor.
2. The investors would also get capital gains tax deferral – so if they had any capital gains they could defer the tax for the period of time they have invested in the health club. This in effect is a form of cash flow saving for the investors.
3. Very importantly – the investors would not be taxed on the investment once they sell – so for example – if they put £150,000 in and in four years time they sell for £225,000 – there is no capital gains tax on the gain of £75,000.
4. The investors investment of £150,000 would be 100% free from Inheritance Tax after 2 years. This is a tax many people don’t like to think about – but is very important to plan for and is one of the great benefits of structuring it as an EIS.
5. I should point out that in order to obtain the above EIS tax advantages, the investors must stay in for at least three years. This may be an advantage to the new health club – as it means you know that you most likely have all the investors in for at least three years.
Huge opportunity for UK Spa Sector "Wellness Trend"
Looking to the future, however, there are huge opportunities for the UK spa sector, driven by a growing interest from people who want to change the way they take care of themselves – what has loosely been described as the "wellness trend".
SRI International says the global wellness industry, which encompasses spas, complementary and alternative medicine, healthy eating, workplace wellness, fitness and anti-ageing therapy
is worth $1.9trn (£1.2trn).
is worth $1.9trn (£1.2trn).
The good news is that the UK sector is poised to take advantage of the wellness trend and come out of the other side of the downturn looking healthy.
As Kalirai observes: "There's innovation in both product and service that has driven growth." Previously, he adds, people saw spas as a luxury but now he believes there's a large percentage of the population who see treatments as a routine to help them relax, switch off and deal with the stress.
Tracey Stapleton, who launched The Spa PR Company in 2003 to take advantage of growth in the sector, says that she has
seen demand for spas boosted by the introduction of gift vouchers. "Vouchers make up about seven per cent of sales, while online promotions are working well and bookings are up about 30 per cent."

Spa visitors are a loyal market, says Stapleton, "and with a 75 per cent return rate I anticipate that wellbeing will continue to be an important aspect of modern-day life, particularly as work becomes more stressful and the working day longer". She adds that day spas are experiencing growth approaching 25 per cent year on year.
Steady as you go
So how are companies within the UK spa sector dealing with the downturn, meeting the demands of consumers and preparing for the future? David Hamdorff, managing director of destination spa Ragdale Hall in Leicestershire, has been in the spa trade for 21 years and seen turnover at Ragdale rise every year. Having survived the recession in the early 1990s he's stoic about the new challenges. "I'd like to think that as a mature business we know how to deal with this sort of situation," he says.

"As the business has done well over the last couple of decades we've invested in expertise, the facilities… Where many businesses were busy downsizing
we did the opposite."

The spa industry has changed, he concedes. People want to relax and get away from it all. "If you'd been talking to me 20 years ago people were in denial about stress, nobody would admit to it. If you were stressed you were ill and needed to see a doctor. Now people want to be relaxed and looked after."

How rising numbers of men are having laser treatment to cure their hairy 'hobbit feet'
- Takes up to eight hours and £700 to remove hair from lower legs and feet
- Private clinic in London performing two sessions a day as foot hair removal patients have doubled in last year
- Surge in men having plastic surgery, with 35 per cent rise in 'man boobs' removals in last year
PUBLISHED: 19:35, 19 May 2013 | UPDATED: 12:22, 20 May 2013
Rising numbers of men are having laser treatment to remove hair from their ‘Hobbit feet’, according to doctors.
They say trends for wearing flip-flops and sandals have made men increasingly self-conscious about the look of their legs.
At one private clinic in London, the numbers coming forward for the £700 treatment to remove hair have doubled in the past year.
Dr Michael Prager, a dermatologist based just off Harley Street, says he performs two sessions each day on men worried about looking like Hobbits from JRR Tolkien’s fantasy novels, in which they are described as having feet covered with curly hair and thick, leathery soles, making shoes unnecessary.
He said: ‘The fashion has changed: men show more leg and they want their feet to look good. I think what you’ll see soon is a trend for men to have no leg hair as well.’
Margaret Dabbs, a foot expert with clinics in Britain and Dubai, said the number of male clients had grown substantially over the past few months.
It takes about eight sessions of up to an hour to remove the hair from men’s lower legs and feet.
The treatment involves using a laser that damages the follicles and prevents hair growth. The hair will normally grow back within a few months or years depending on the individual.

Although it is often referred to as ‘permanent’, the hair will normally grow back within a few months or years depending on the individual.
Ms Dabbs said: ‘It used to mainly be metrosexual men, but we now have the whole spectrum.
Men are paying up to £700 to have foot hair removed in preparation for flip-flop season. Patients are said to be seeking professional help to avoid the hairy 'Hobbit feet' effect, that make-up artists created for Martin Freeman in the Hobbit (pictured right)
‘We have lawyers, company owners, MPs, even royalty.’
This is the latest trend that suggests men are becoming increasingly proud about their bodies.
In January, the Private Clinic on London’s Harley street reported that the numbers going under the knife to have their so-called ‘man boobs’ removed had risen by 38 per cent in a year.
Dr Dennis Wolf one of the specialist doctors said: ‘I have certainly noticed an increase in the number of men who come to me to find out more about male chest reduction procedures.
‘Today men are more aware of the treatments available to them and are more open to the possibility of undergoing a cosmetic procedure in a bid to get the shape and the physique that they would like.’
Men account for ten per cent of all cosmetic surgery procedures - which doesn’t include laser treatment - according to the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons.

IPL Versus True Laser Hair Removal
Compare Our True Lasers with IPL!
Many people think all laser hair removal is the same, this could't be further than the truth. Many laser hair removal clinics in London offer IPL which is a much inferior and less effective hair removal technique and the results often don't last very long.
At the Byrons Laser Clinic we only offer true laser hair removal technology from the world's leading laser manufacturers such as Candela and Cynosure which creates permanently reduced results.
We recognise that there is a wide choice of suppliers, and feel that you should have the information you need to make the decision about which laser clinic to use. Of course, we hope you will decide to use us at Byron Laser Clinic!
There are two types of "laser" treatment on the market: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL Laser Hair Removal) and true lasers. Both have been used for many years but there are important differences between them.
IPL Laser Hair Removal uses full spectrum light (such as you can get from a lightbulb), whereas Lasers use just one wavelength of coherent light (such as you would get from a single beam laser at a light show). Only certain wavelengths of light will be effective in removing your hair and, while the light from IPL will include these wavelengths, light from a Laser is specifically designed to target hair removal, without exposing you to any unnecessary light radiation.
Single wavelength lasers are more effective at hair removal, and although this treatment may cost a little more than the inferior IPL treatments available, we believe that you get what you pay for!
The laser that we use is the Candela GentleLASE which has a 755 nanometre beam of light, and is marketed specifically for hair removal. It is superior to any IPL Laser Hair Removal technology that we known of, for permanent and effective results.
We would strongly advise you to consider the options before deciding which hair removal clinic to use.

Byron Massage
WHY MASSAGE IS GOOD FOR YOU
Massage is a wonderful antidote to stress and a powerful way to relax.
It allows you to switch off that nagging voice inside your head, to unwind from the overwork, rush and worries that compound, encourages you to breathe deeply and slowly and eases out the tension found in tight muscles. hrough the act of relaxation we stimulate a part of the brain (the parasympathetic nervous system) that slows down the heart rate, the rate of breathing, lowers blood pressure and stimulates digestion and immunity.
Massage can literally soothe our nerves and produce a feeling of well being.
The action of rubbing the skin creates changes in the body and the hormone
endorphin is also released. This is the body's natural pain killer which also creates a sense of well being.
It improves circulation by assisting the flow of blood from the limbs back
to the heart and increases the flow of fresh blood, which carries nutrients and oxygen to organs and muscles.
The first action of massage on muscles is to encourage them to relax and
lengthen; (imagine a wound up elastic band being unravelled), relieving tightness, tension and toxins.
The second action is to encourage fresh blood into the congested area,
bringing fresh nutrients and oxygen to the fatigued muscle, and assisting with the removal of the to xic waste product produced by muscle action called lactic acid.
Massage will assist the flow of the straw coloured fluid that circulates our body
known as lymph. The lymphatic system is instrumental in fighting infection and developing immunity.
Often after a number of massages people find that they are more aware of their
bodies and in turn more able to relax. When 80 percent of visits to GP’s [doctors] are stress related, massage has an important role to play in the nations health. |
BM1 Calculator
With a BMI of 25 to 29.9 many people may only notice they are overweight when their clothes get tighter - by then the excess weight you're carrying will already have silently started to damage your blood vessels, hormone system and joints, raising your risk of diseases such as:
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Arthritis
- Infertility
- Asthma
- Cancer
Although you may feel no different, you need to take action whilst the effects of being overweight can be reversed more easily - you need to gently reduce your calorific intake and increase your activity level. Crash diets don’t work - you need to change your lifestyle. Even slight changes make a difference - two less chocolate biscuits, or one less glass of wine a day can lose you 5lb in fat during the year. Simply parking the car at the far end of the car park or using the stairs instead of the lift will over time make a noticeable difference.

What is BMI?
The Body Mass Index (or BMI) is a way of seeing if your weight is appropriate for your height. The actual calculation is your weight (in kilograms) divided by your height (in metres) squared but it's also easy to read on the chart. BMI can be divided into several categories and generally the higher your BMI, the greater your risk of a large range of medical problems.
BMI charts are calculated for adults only (separate charts are available for children’s weight and heights). Inaccuracies can also occur if you're an athlete or very muscular as this can give you a higher BMI even if you have a healthy level of body fat and this BMI chart is not appropriate for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or people who are very frail.
As BMI is based on weight and height, by losing weight you will reduce your BMI and put yourself into a lower risk group. A healthy diet, including a balance of food groups, vitamins and minerals, is essential for a long and active life. Keeping it simple, body weight and shape are a balance of energy intake (dietary calorific content) against output (calorific burn from activity & exercise).
Many studies have shown that, to slowly and steadily lose weight, any diet which includes a healthy balance will work if you're motivated. Ideally a low fat, high fibre diet is best but low calorie diets, low-carb diets, meal replacement diets or simply reducing portion size will work as long as, at the end of the day, you're not taking in too much energy for your body’s particular needs. Generally, to lose 1lb /week you need to take in 500 calories less every day.
